Founded in 1954, the company had US bicycle-helmet market share in excess of 60% at the time of Charlesbank’s investment. The company distributes its products through specialty stores and mass-merchant chains such as Wal-Mart and Kmart. We sold Bell to a financial buyer in 2000.
